On Guard

Tuesday, May 6, 2014
Keep a cool head.  Stay alert.  The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping.  Keep your guard up.  You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times.  It’s the same with Christians all over the world.  So keep a firm grip on the faith.  The suffering won’t last forever.  It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good.  He gets the last word; yes, he does.  1 Peter 5:8-11 (TMSG)
We live in a culture where it is a simple and quick transaction to lose hope or your testimony or both.  And that’s a terrible state for a Christian.
Peter warns us to keep “on guard” because it is the unguarded heart that winds up in trouble.  So the question is, how do I guard my heart today?

I’m glad you asked.

Peter mentions four very important things to remember as you stand against Satan:

#1.  We are not alone.

Peter reminds us that it’s the same for Christians all over the world.  There are enough brothers and sisters in Christ to strengthen one another.

#2.  We are strengthened best by a firm understanding of God’s Word (the faith).

The Bible is no “self-help” book; it’s God’s Word, able to make us strong.

#3.  The suffering has its limit.

God’s understanding, and His sovereign control over the events of your life and the entire universe, coupled with His great love for you will not allow you to be tempted or pushed past your endurance.

#4.  His “last word” is “Come”.

Everything about time and eternity was created by God, and is moving towards God.  At the right time He will say “come“ to His children, and we will stand for all eternity with Him.

Today…for you

To guard your heart, remember that others guard with you, and His Word is your armor, and when the limited suffering you experience is put to an end, it is your Heavenly Father who stands ready to receive you with open arms.
Walk strong in that today, child of God!
